◉ Things Change
Hello,
I have not sent out a newsletter in a long time. The main reason for this is that the newsletter was a way to keep people up-to-date with the various podcasts and other creative projects I was doing, and it has been a long time since I've made stuff and put it out into the world.
The reason I've not been able to make stuff is because I've been really busy doing three things:
- Being a parent to three young kids
- Being an assistant professor
- Being a psychoanalyst
- Being a business owner – Maintaining a psychoanalytic practice involves setting up and running a business.... so number 4 is more like number 3.5...
I've done my best to meet the various obligations that all of these positions have required of me. However, the effects of living like this have been difficult. Over the fall semester of 2023, it became more evident to me that living this way is not something I desire to sustain.
As a result of this, I chose to give up my tenured university position. It was not an easy choice, but I'm confident it was the right one for me and my family.
Changes:
Psychoanalysis – One of the effects of this change is that I'll have more time to see patients/analysands in person and virtually. As of this writing, a little less than half of my new spots have been filled. However, I do still have spots left.
If you, or someone you know, is interested in trying psychoanalysis, I'm accepting new patients!
Podcasts – I've just released a new episode of InForm: Podcast, the first episode of season 5, an interview with Rob Bell. I'm very pleased with the way the interview turned out! I'm working to set up more interviews now.
Teaching – While I've stopped teaching at a university, I want to continue teaching. I plan to offer some classes, seminars, and reading groups soon. When I get the infrastructure to do this figured out, I'll announce it through this newsletter.
Newsletter – I'm going to shoot to produce enough stuff to put something out on a mostly weekly basis.
[S][J][P] – I've ditched the idea of a membership program and turned what was paid memberships into a support program. The idea here is that I invest time, energy, and money into making the [S][J][P] website, the podcasts, and the newsletter. If people enjoy these things and would like to help offset the cost of making them, you could send some money my way by clicking the "Support [S][J][P]" button on the site and signing up to send $7.00 a month/$50.00 a year, or $12.00 a month/$100.00 a year.
Random Stuff:
Does anyone want/need a Blue Sky Invite? I have five. If you shoot me an email asking for one, I'll send it your way. If I get more than five people asking for invites, I'll reply and tell you all my invites are used up.
