In There are Four Discourses, Lacan says that Freud thought:

That all is but a dream and that everyone (if one can say such a thing), that everyone is mad, that is, delusional.

In the novel A Visit from the Goon Squad, Jennifer Egan writes:

one key ingredient of so-called experience is the delusional faith that it is unique and special, that those included in it are privileged and those excluded from it are missing out.
